Opportunities for You and for Me :)
By Mary Jean Powers

It’s a beautiful day in my neighborhood. The sun’s reflection on the lake is blinding, bringing warmth as it shines through the open windows. Nearby mountains are snow-covered now, yet with the mild temperatures, the afternoons feel more like Springtime than mid-November. I’m thankful for the beauty of nature, for this season of home-making, and for the simple joys of life.
During the past month …
I hosted a quarterly debrief in my home. These are quiet times to sit with the Lord and assess the events of the previous three months. If you would like to join us for our next debrief on Saturday, January 11, please let me know. It will be a time to look back and get clearer perspective on the happenings of 2024.
The Fall session for Colorado School of Worship ended this week. Students each presented the story of Jesus’ description of worship found in Mark 12:28–34, shared their talents with the school, reflected on what the Holy Spirit highlighted for them, and played together as one big worship team. Happy times, all around!
YWAM Salem, Oregon invited me to teach Walk Thru the Bible for their Discipleship Training School! The Walk Thru curriculum is the most effective Bible overview I know of. It’s a highly interactive class which explains the Old and New Testaments in a fun way while making sense of Biblical chronology, geography, and themes. You can find more details on the Walk Thru the Bible page. If your Bible study group or church would like to host a Walk Thru event, please let me know ~ I’m scheduling now for 2025!
While in Salem, I facilitated a mini-debrief for an exceptionally gifted missionary who served faithfully for ten years. What an honor to hear her stories, process her questions, watch Jesus bring closure, and encourage her in the upcoming transition. Debriefs provide set-apart times for pastors, missionaries, and ministry leaders to receive clarity from God in a safe and comfortable atmosphere. You can learn more on the debriefing page. This is an invitation to you — or a ministry leader you know — to schedule a debrief with me. If it’s time to reflect on your life and ministry in order to proactively guard your heart against burnout, resentment, excessive frustration, etc., please respond to this newsletter or send me an email or text!
Also, while in Salem, I reconnected with a former piano student … “former” as in 30 years ago! Wow, what an honor to see him again, to remember the variety of opportunities we shared, and to hear about the impact that our times together had on his life. What a gentle-spirited and kind husband, father, and pastor he has become. And what a gift to me to have reconnected with him! We never fully know the kind of mark we leave on someone’s life …
Last month, I mentioned that you can now access our Scripture Recordings on most major platforms! I hope that some of you clicked on the links and enjoyed them. Did you know that there are also 4 albums for kids — Scriptures read by kids, for kids! The children’s topics include Honor, Thanksgiving, Joy, and One Another. You can listen on Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music.
I so appreciate your prayers, your friendship, your emails, notes of encouragement, and your support. I am so very fortunate to have you in my life.
Forever Grateful, Mary Jean :)
